Sustainability
How we’re making a bigger difference.
We’ve always cared about sustainability at pop-up portraits. But at the end of 2020 we made a New Year’s resolution. We want to make the biggest commitment we can to our planet and to our clients in going green. While we don’t drive hummers or dish out single-use plastics left, right and centre, we realised there was more we could be doing. Lots and lots of little things that can make a big difference.
Looking after the environment is such an integral part of our future, that ensuring we have a sustainable company code of practice is a key priority to us as mums and business owners.
We always encourage or clients to opt for a digital download gallery. But, when this is not their preference, we use a local printing partner who recycles excess paper, board and film which is key to the sustainability of their company and our future footprint. They operate a range of recycling methods for paper, board, packaging and film to ensure nothing goes to waste.
For our studio clients who want albums, memory books or magazines, we will offer vegan and recycled options. Our business cards and brochures are all printed on recycled paper.
In our studio, we use reusable ink cartridges, vegetable-based inks, rechargeable batteries and refurbished equipment (wherever feasible). We already have a ‘leave-no-trace’ commitment on shoots, but we’re raising our game by exclusively using biodegradable and sustainable backdrops. Oh and our special project ‘plant a tree’, where we donate a native tree to the National Forest on behalf of every school after every shoot we undertake.
Best of all, from March 2022 we’ll be moving our studio closer to home. As well as reducing the carbon cost of our travel, we’re moving into a greener, more eco-aware space. Watch this space for more details (and pics) of that exciting development.
We want to make it easier for you to be as sustainable as possible too. So all our suppliers and contractors will also be from a list of ethical suppliers. So we’re encouraging sustainable partnerships and supporting like-minded local businesses to join our cooperative. We take this responsibility very seriously, so responsible procurement, sustainability, recycling and carbon-offsetting are all factors we consider when developing supplier and consumer relationships.
When we got down to the job of listing everything we could be doing differently, we were surprised by just how much there was – and excited at the difference we can immediately make.
